April Update

It's been awhile since we last checked in here...here you go!

We learned we got pregnant around the end of January and then knew for sure at the beginning of February I had 2 sacs!
Unfortunately the pregnancy was not meant to last. We lost the pregnancy at the end of February and were sad for a small moment in time, but have no fear because we are excited to be parents soon in God's time! We feel it was more of a blessing than a tragedy. Through it we realized how ready we are to be parents and that we may not have any problems getting pregnant again!

Nelson has been having fun playing baseball, he's a good hitter and great at playing first base. He seems to catch anything that comes his way, who wouldn't if you were 6'4" and uber athletic like him.
We have spent lots of time over the past few months with our niece and nephew Adelee & Gordie. It is so rewarding to see them grow and learn. My name is "nigh" and Unky Nelbo's name is "BoBo."

We are seriously looking at purchasing a home by the end of this year. We have an awesome real estate agent, so the search has begun. We are going to take our time to find something that is right for us!

My business has taken off! I was in Las Vegas last week at an awesome training with my team, and I am amazed at the great people I get to work with!! Our lives have been truly blessed by my business, and I am eager to build big in 2009.

I am also singing a lot for a church in Culver City, CA. The church has a great community with great people and I'm so glad I have a place to share my gift with others.

Easter, we went to church and we made Pierogi's! Everyone loved them especially Gordie who slept 7:30pm to 4am. According to Martha, this is a record and she attributed it all to the Klapchuk Pierogi's! I also made a fabulous raisin & cinnamon bread to go with the ham. mmmmmmm.....

Coming up...
Jennifer turns 31 (May 6th) and Nelson turns 32 (May 30th)!!

2009 will be fine

Great opportunities are popping up for us!

We are planning to buy some property this year, which will be a dream come true. We can't wait to own our own home, decorate, etc. And perhaps start our family!

Nelson has signed up to play baseball with a hard-core league here in the Valley. I'm thrilled he has a new hobby, and can't wait to see his games this summer.
He's made some great contacts in the industry for his writing projects and I pray everyday that someone finds his work as amazing as we do!

I've been offered a new singing gig at a Jewish temple while still singing at Grace Lutheran. Plus my director has offered free voice lessons 3 times per month. So I think my music life is going to blossom even more in 2009!

We are excited about the future, and remember this time last year we were planning for our wedding with such anticipation.

Life is good, and we are so happy and blessed.

2008 in Review

2008 was an incredible year for us. It started out with all wedding planning! Getting my ducks in a row so to speak.
Mary (my mother in law) and Martha (my sister in law) threw the most elegant and beautiful 1st wedding shower for me in February. Guests included my bridesmaids Amber, Molly, & Martha and friends Elizabeth, Prudence, Shaheen, & Simone. My mom was in town, so it was a lovely fun event with the ladies! We enjoyed homemade scones, cookies, sandwiches, and tea while playing the helarious toilet paper wedding dress game!

In May we traveled to Seattle for joint wedding showers. My aunt Margaret and my dear friend Alison threw a beautiful wedding shower for me with friends and family, and my dad threw a "man shower" for Nelson over at my parents home. It was such a delightful celebration, I only hoped it could have lasted a lot longer. I was sincerely blown away at how many people came.

At the end of May Nelson and I traveled to Las Vegas to celebrate our birthdays (me 30, he 31). We stayed at The Golden Nugget and they decided to upgrade us when we checked in...

We went to the most incredible dinner at Hugo's in The Four Queens. It was perhaps one of the best meals we've ever enjoyed! Steak, Lobster, Salad and great company. We heard about this place from the FedEx lady who delivers to our office.

4th of July weekend we traveled to Michigan for yet another wedding shower! We flew into Detroit to visit Chuck's (my father in law) family. We first went to meet Rose, Nelson's grandmother and then went to visit with Patti (Nel's Aunt), Di (uncle), Patrick (cousin), other friends and family. What a great family!!!

We drove from Detroit to Dowagiac in the eastern part of Michigan. Dowagiac is where Mary (my mother in law) grew up. Her sister Carol, & brother Ed live there and Carol along with her daughter and her husband Art run the family furniture store. The store was first owned and started by Mary's parents. The store was wonderful! It is so beautiful and has everything anyone could want.

That day Carol threw a huge shower for me and Nel! So many people came that I had not met before, so it was a great introduction into his family. This night was my first introduction to fireflys. I'd never seen them before! I thought they were sparks from a fire or something! We celebrated our engagement while Cindy & Joe Burke (Mary & Chucks close family) celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. The next day we drove to Ann Arbor to stay with Joe & Cindy and go out to dinner to celebrate their actually wedding anniversary. And a cool bit of knowledge is that Mary & Chuck met at Cindy and Joe's wedding 34 years ago!! So of course I asked them, "what is it that keeps you guys together, and going strong after all these years?" and Cindy relied "being good friends to each other."

While in Michigan we got the call from Chuck (Nelson's brother) that their baby boy was born! Gordon Russel Kaiton, our nephew!

I took one last trip to Seattle to finalize details for the wedding and then August 19th (5 days before the big day) we flew up to Seattle. It was the most wonderful event of our lives, and we had so many friends and family come to town. There were hicups along the way, but we handled them the way we always do...laugh about it!

After the wedding, Nelson and I honeymooned up in Leavenworth, WA. We took a quiet drive through Cle Elum to visit our favorite coffee shop Pioneer Coffee Company, and then an hour later of driving through the mountains we were at our destination. I'm so happy we chose such a beautiful spot to vacation, we have nothing but great memories of our trip.

In October we traveled to Michigan again for cousin Audrey's wedding (Carol's daughter). Audrey and Adam had the most beautiful wedding, and I just remember dancing my butt off with Nelson! We got to see aunt Nat there, and some other family members including Patti, Di, uncle Ed and aunt Diane. It was fun being married and going to a wedding!

Thanksgiving rolled around and we decided to stay in LA. We got all the food, and cooked our first Thanksgiving meal together. I made 2 pumpkin pies, garlic mashed potatoes, french string beans, yummy stuffing, biscuits, gravy, and an organic 11 pound turkey. Russ & Chuck (Nel's brothers) joined us for the feast!

Christmas was white for us in 2008. Seattle saw one of the biggest blizards since 1996 just 5 days before Christmas and we were able to enjoy the snow and cold weather during our visit. Mom and I even cross country skiied to The Roanoke for lunch!!

It's now a new year, and all we can talk about is when we can have a baby!! : ) We'll keep you posted on our progress.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

from 8/13/08

The monkey story began when Nel and I were first dating.
I asked him what it was he did for work, and he replied "I'm an office monkey!" I asked him what that meant, and he replied "Well, I basically do what they ask me to do." After thinking about it I realized I was also an office monkey, but I was working as a receptionist at the time, so I concluded that I was an office monkey too. But I was "chained" to my desk since I always had to ask if I could leave (to have someone cover phones). This was the birth of our nickname MONKEY.

Now we are getting married and starting our lives together. It's amazing to think that we met here in Los Angeles under crazy circumstances! He from Connecticut and I from Seattle meeting on match.com.
3 years later, we're taking the plunge!
He is everything I've wanted in a partner and more, this will be a fun adventure together.

It begins!

Wedding Bliss

We've been planning for 8 straight months now and I'm burned out.
As of today 8/13/08 we are done! It's been a lot of emailing, faxing, phone calls, and more emailing.
Planning a wedding for 300 is a hard job from 1000 miles away!
We have survived it together, and are now looking forward to savoring every minute of our 3 week trip.

There's always that crazy wedding diet brides take on before the big day, and I have to say I'm no exception.
I've been drinking the super dieters tea lately, and then today I have started a 7 day sea mineral detox program from Arbonne. I want to keep a blog to track the changes I see and feel. At the very least this detox will leave me feeling full of energy and vigor!

Everyday I'm amazed at the incredible friendships I have. It truly shows through from the wedding planning, who the real friends are and I'm blown away by their generosity. Thank You!
This is going to be a wonderful transition in my life.

A whole new year

It has been a very long time since I last wrote a blog, and what better time than in the new year.
Welcome 2007!
A lot of great things happened last year and some sad things.

Well...I just revisited this post I started back in January of 2007 and it's now June of 2008!
I wish I could remember the sad things I was going to write above...perhaps it's a good thing I can't.
Wow, where do I begin?
Our niece Adelee was born June 1, 2007.
Nel asked me to marry him at our family reunion party July of 2007 on Bainbridge Island on the PNW beach.
I directed senior high aqua camp at N-SID-SEN on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene along with Nel and Scott July of 2007.
We spent Thanksgiving of '07 in San Francisco again.
Scott took a job as a teacher in 2007!
We were in Seattle for Christmas and spent New Years having an awesome engagement party at my parents house with friends and family!!
So far in 2008, my business has been doing so great!
Nel's brother just moved from Phoenix to LA.
We are getting married!! ahhhhhh
This year of 2008 is a year of new beginnings.
We have a nephew on the way in July!
We are going to Michigan in July.

I guess now I will rethink what to blog about and get myself up and running, photos and all!!!
Feels good to be back on here.

Detroit won the stanley cup this year in 2008 (we are very sad about that) and the Anaheim Ducks took it last year!
This photo is from 2006 when the Carolina Hurricanes won, and we got to spend 24 hours with the cup itself.

Saturday, May 20, 2006

The photo above is a shot I took from our 2 hour wait to get on a freakin trolly in San Francisco summer of 2005. It was totally worth the wait, but so hot out!
Almost a year has gone by since I took that picture, and it happened to be July 4th, 2005.
~
This year we have planned to be with friends on the beach in beautiful San Diego.
I have fallen in love with that city, perhaps beacuse there are a few million less people in it?
No, it's the beaches!
And we can go to the baseball stadium without worrying if we are going to get stabbed or mugged in the parking lot!! haha! I'm not joking...
~
This weekend has been so relaxing with no plans, and nothing to do but cook and shop, and play 2003 Tiger Woods Golf on playstation. I'm hooked.

May 17th

Where has the time gone? It's the middle of May already!?
I feel like life is slipping away everyday, and so I've been trying hard to do something everyday to work towards something better for myself. My life is not shit, but I expect so much more than where I'm at right now.
It's been 3 weeks now, and I've gone to the gym 5 days per week. It feels pretty good considering I'd lost my routine after moving to NoHo last summer! There are no excuses, are there...

I have been dreaming lately of having a dog...I grew up with dogs from the time I was a baby. We first had Buster who was a mut, but a great mut! and then we got Max our golden retriever, and then we got Milo another golden 5 years before Max passed away.
I am living here without a dog, and I'm finding it hard. I have the yearning to take care of a pet, because it improves the quality of my life 10 fold being able to have that companionship. So lately I've been looking at all the breeders in my area for goldens, and ones that are up for adoption as well, but we must wait until we have a place that allows dogs, and is large enough for one!
For now I'll have to play with my friends dogs...

I have gotten closer and closer to knowing what my ideal life is, and now find myself moving closer to that dream. I have to or else I will live without happiness, and fullfillment! I am grateful for this!

History of Dating

In the 1940's and 50's it was expected of the young that you would seriously date, and find a mate or someone to marry.
In highschool dating was expected and then in college was where you most likely would find your partner.
The iinstitution of marriage was very different than it is in 2006. It was a part of the American psyche that you were expected to have a marriage, and make it work no matter what. It was implied that marriage was very important and was to be treated as sacred, and something that required a lot of work. Divorce meant you were an outcast, divorce was the last resort. Today, the process of divorce has become so much more easy that, many troubled couples find it easier to opt out of the relationship than to stick to it and come through problems. There are many relationships that are better ended in divorce, but there are so many that could be saved if it were considered sacred.

As I write this I need to talk about getting to know someone. Many people marry to marry, and get to know someone after marriage only to find that they are not as a god match as they had previously thought. What happened to getting to know someone? What happened to saving yourself for someone special? What happened to the art of dating?
I see fewer and fewer people setting others up on dates or having friendly gatherings where people can meet, WITHOUT THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL! Are we too busy? Is life so fast that we forget to pay attention to each other?
In a city like Los Angeles, everyone drives to work, to the store, to the bank, everywhere! So in able to meet a mate, you'd literally have to hit someone with your car! Because of the isolated lifestyle here, many people avoid contact with each other. Perhaps this is because this is what we get used to doing, in our cars, at work, etc...

Anyhoo, this is just me rambling about an institution that has changed over so many years, and there certainly are cultures and humans that cmpletely value marriage as sacred, but there are also those in between who do not have any clue what a successful marriage entails and have never had a great example of it growing up.

On the eve of valentines day, I write these words about my beau.

My True Companion

Adventure abounds
Lets drive into the mountains
There are mountains here?
Cuisine our magnet
Life rich
Familiarity in family
We are never alone

You've seen me at my worst

Passions, interests
travel, gambling

So much fun
laughing, and living

Support and cheering
To chase dreams
Happiness
we want for the other
This is our life
give and take
adventures to come
communication, compromise

you found me
here's to friendship
tears of joy
day in day out
goof-ball, nerd, silly
dorky, loud, funny
nicknames

adventure awaits
fun abounds
we have a world to see
lets drive, go somewhere
coffee in hand
I laugh
that's all I need

2006

The holidays went so fast, and I was in three different states for each one at the end of 2005. Thanksgiving in San Francisco, Christmas in Seattle, and New Years in Raleigh, NC. What a freakin whirlwind!! It was just enough time to say hi and then leave.
It is now 2006, and I have decided that I'm tired of not knowing what to do with my life.
I know the things I'm interested in, but don't have a clue about what to do about the long term picture!? I do know there are people out there that refuse to face that feeling, and they go their entire lives working mindless jobs that do NOT make them happy.
At least this puts me in the category of "not completely, and utterly lost."

It is now time to realize that I do too much for others. I am constantly keeping my friends entertained, and always filling my schedule with get-togethers, and social functions. Now, this is not an entirely bad thing, but it is when I feel like I am not doing enough for myself.
I came to this conclusion after much discusion with my boyfriend. I am now determined to figure out what I want to do wth my life (maybe becoming a teacher) and to get healthy, and maintain a healthy weight for my frame. This is for me!!

Happiness is key, and the key to Happiness is using your gifts to help others.

Online Dating

I have been telling a lot of friends about how I met my boyfriend, and I have to tell them over and over that we met online. I think online dating is not as taboo as it used to be, but we are human, and using technology to find love is just weird.

I am here to say that it worked for me, and if it worked for me, it has the possibility of working for anybody!
But there are some things you should know going into it...

First of all you need to be willing to be honest about who you are, and how much of yourself you are willing to show the dating world. That goes for regular dating as well and online.

Second: You can tell a lot abut someone just from their picture! Are they smiling? Can you see their eyes? Do they look honest? And on a lot of these site, one is able to pick a lot of photos to show their lifestyle, and who they are. Pictures tell a thousand words!
I would pass on guys who had pictures of themselves in front of cars, or professional pictures of them without a top on, these types of guys have an ego, and are most likely going to care more about their needs rather than mine.
Same thing goes for women! Are they smiling? Do they have kind eyes? Are they showing off, or just showing who they are?

Third: Are they wliling to talk about themselves? We are asked to describe who we are and what we are looking for on these sites, and you really should not be out there if you really don't know. I would run across profiles that had guys saying "I'm not sure what to say here, I'm a nice guy looking for love." that is not someone who is willing to put theselves out there and be honest about who they are! If he's willing to describe his himself, and willing to describe what he's looking for it makes it so much easier! And there's a chance his humour may come through the page. That's what happened with me; my boyfriends profile actually made me laugh out loud, and that was all it took to drop him an email.

Fourth: Get the initial meeting in out of the way. You may meet someone online, but you have just met in a virtual world. There are chances you have great chemistry from afar, and he or she may look like your match on their profile, but there is the one last key. Will you like each other, or will you "click" in person? The sooner you know the answer to that question the better. I was sooooo nervous going to meet my man for the first time, but it was worth finding out, and it turned out for the better. He on the other hand had been dating for a long time, and meeting girls from online, and he says that once you do it once, it gets easier from there.

Go on! Put yourself out there, and see what happens. You never know what you will find! For me it was a real confidence booster getting lots of winks and emails from people, even if I was not attracted to them in return. It just means you are not alone out there, and that there are tons of people looking for love in all places, even interactively!

New Horizon's

I Finally put in my 2 weeks at work, so I can find work closer to home.
I moved so that my commute went from 10 minutes (traveling 3 miles) to an hour (traveling 14 miles). Not so fun!
So finally I am looking forward to finding work close to home, and will be able to focus more on my path and direction.
I'm good with kids, I love helping other people, I'm awesomely musical, and have some fun hobbies.
So now's the time to sorta listen to my heart, and that little voice inside and hear what it's telling me.

I got news last night of a dear friend, who's struggling with direction in her life. And I left her a message this morning to call me. I seem to be able to help others find their paths better than I know how to see or find mine. It sounds like she's not doing music (which she should!) and she's just partying all the time, and it's obvious she's making herself numb so she doesn't have to face her discontent.
Face your discontent, and things will change for the better. Listen to your discontent, and it will push you in another direction! Journal it!

I was dicontent with my pay, and with my commute, so voila I'm doing something about it.
I'm discontent with my long term goals, so I'm looking into grad programs, because all I know is that I want t help others.

Here are some phrases I have learned to live by:
  • Change the way you look at things and things you look at will change
  • Feel the Fear but do it anyways
  • Don't make excuses for him
  • In general people are stupid
  • Never let the audience be an indication of how you are doing
  • Comfort makes you stupid
  • A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are built for
  • Kill'em with kindness
  • Take a risk learn something new about yourself

I am looking forward to the fall time, and all the fun events I have planned with friends and family! Life is not yours to keep, it's yours to enjoy and be happy in. And always continue to learn!!

Rollercoaster

I need to take a minute to lift my head and take several very deep breaths. Ever feel like life is moving way too fast, and can be hard to cope with?
I keep thinking, okay, I'll just get through this week, and then I can just relax and things will calm down and I'll have some time to myself.
Um, not so much...
For me that next week is just as crazy as the week before, so now I'm just preparing for what might surface next week.

  • At the end of September I moved out of my apartment, and moving is never fun in 100 degree weather. I was burglarized (while home alone) the 2nd to last night we moved out, and talk about terrifying!
  • I had recenlty settled a huge mess with my employer finally, they had been witholding my paychecks from me!
  • Then I think I had a week of peace, somewhat, and the next week we had the whole world in our office. I became the best office monkey in the world! I worked my tail off along with others to make sure things went smoothly for our global directors from around the world. That was a stressful couple weeks. That week I got a call to do a gig as well, on the night of my little bros birthday. I had to find a replacement for my other gig and had to sing at another party, while missing my little bros birthday. Grrrrrrr
  • Then my car broke down for the 2nd time in 2 months. It's scary to be in the middle of gridlock in hollywood at a red light and your car beginning to overheat! I had it towed to one place and then another, trying to find a good mechanic who could work on my car. $1000 later I had my car back in good shape. I still can't believe I've put more money into my car than my own health.
  • Then dad came to town and we had a mini vacation to Disneyland! That was beyond fun...
  • Now this week I'm still waiting to receive a lost paycheck from work, and I have to be in court tomorrow morning to testify against the man who burglarized me in August...

I must begin to look at the bright side of things! I think I always do, but this town is rough and unforgiving. C'est la vie...

Well, I have learned about patience, and that life will throw curve balls at you. It's how you handle it that shows your true character!

Cheers, and go Red Sox!

Happy Friday!

Ok, so there's something I like to do at my desk every Friday to get my mind off of work, and to broaden my scope on what's going on outside my own life.
It's called "the week in pictures" and it's on msn.com.

The photos are incredible and sometimes outright emotional or disturbing. They are meant to show what goes on around the world in the past week, and each set is of about 8-14 photos.

Everyone should feel free to take a couple moments out of their day on Friday to reflect on what's going on around the world. And to do that through pictures is priceless, and powerful.

Family Ties

It seems to me that the most important things in my life are my family and my friends, and the type of relationships I have. This is why moving away from some of the most important people in my life has been so hard.

Granted I am in the midst of a new beginning, a time to create my own life, create new experiences, and get on my feet in a strange new environment. I have certainly learned that taking risks can be scary, but can be beneficial to one's character, and personal growth.
Each day I miss the life I grew to love and adore, and I wish I was home for birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings, parties with friends, creating new memories.

I remember the moment so vividly in my mind. It was the day I knew I had to move to Los Angeles. I was riding on a train in Europe with my family, and I think we were traveling from the south of Spain to Madrid. I had my headphones on listening to music, and a voice inside me said "you have to go."
So for about a year and a half I worked hard to earn money for the move, and struggled all the time with whether or not it was the right decision, but I knew I needed to at least try, and see what was to come.

On a weekend in April I had a long heart felt conversation with my mom about moving back to Seattle. And that was it, I was mentally preparing to move back to Seattle after being in Los Angeles for one year without a great job and without the love of my life, music! Then that same weekend I met the man I have recently moved in with. At that moment, I knew LA was not through with me.
Suddenly everything looked different. I was hanging out with someone who has been in the city for 5 years, and new the right parts to show me. I was seeing nature again, going on drives to the ocean and the mountains. And then music came back into my life.

Things are much brighter now for me, and it took time. I have a solid base of friends, and I have some family, and I'm creating new memories for myself. I just can't wait to share it all with the ones I love who are not near me!!

Seen it all

Living in a large city as Los Angeles, I've been exposed to many things. In a sense I've seen it all.
Often I see a guy who stands on the median of a major intersection and he is always hitting the sign post with his one crutch. Passing by him in my car, I see that his skin is flush red with crazy, and his eyes are glossed over with hunger, pain, and insanity. I think to myself this guy is the type you'd see in a mental institute, and here he is roaming the streets of Los Angeles for money.

Once I went to the mall on my lunch break to purchase a new pair of shoes for an event. I parked and then went to get on the elevator being sure to let the young woman with the baby stroller to get on first. I smiled nicely at the woman, and allowed her to proceed. Once in the elevator I looked down into the carriage or the stroller, and there was no baby. It was a small dog, with a toy next to it, and a water dish. I laughed inside.

I was getting off the freeway one time and had to stop at the light. I look over to my right and saw a guy in a wheel chair stand up and stretch, and then his friend sat in the chair. It was the funniest thing to see these guys use a wheel chair for sympathy only, as they begged for food or money.

My boyfriend and I went to a Dodgers vs. Anaheim baseball game, and once the game was over we witnessed a major fight between men below us in our section. Granted I have never really seen a major fight take place in front of me before, so this was shocking to watch.
One guy who had been taunting the dodger fans, got kicked, beat, punched, and thrown over the seats. By the time 5 guys had kicked the living shit out of him, he was bleeding from his ear, and his pregnant wife or girlfriend was trying to clean him up. Eventually security showed up, but not until all the damage was done.

Living in a crazy neighborhood such as West Hollywood, there is a lot to see especially around the holidays. Men dressed as women, women dressed as men. Dance clubs with men dancing half naked on pedistals. And not to metion the Haloween carnival thrown every year, it's a site to see.

I'm sure I'll recall more crazy incidents.

Fun stuff!

Foreshadowing

I was recalling the other day my first visit to LA after passing by the hotel I stayed at on my first independent visit to this place. It was the winter of 1997 new years. I was a freshman in college, and I thought it was so cool that our football team had one all of their games. Some girls and myself decided we should drive from Washinton State to Los Angeles, CA to see the rosebowl, since our school was playing against Michigan that year. That was 1998 Jan. 1st.

The girls I came with were all from a small town that never new traffic, and had only one stop light. I on the other hand had been raised in a big hilly city with a stick shift. So I was the one to drive all around Los Angeles while we visited.

I remember driving through West Hollywood, thinking it was so nice, with all the Palm Trees. We stayed in Westwood at the Doubletree just off Beverly Hills. That also was nice!

Now I am living here and thinking about how far I have come since then. It's amazing to think about how I didn't really know anything about LA, and I embraced a visit with drive and excitement. So now, I really know the city, and have come to the conclusion that; once you get the chance to live in a place like Los Angeles, and if you can handle it, you can live anywhere.

It's fun to take some time and relfect on what makes me who I am, and how much I have put myself outside of my comfort zone not even knowing if I could handle it, and growing from my experiences.

Makes me wonder.
